 General Introduction
Nagano Station is a station of National Livestock Breeding Center (NLBC), which is the independent administrative agency for promoting livestock industry in Japan, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.The Station is located at Saku City in Nagano Prefecture, where it takes one and a half hour from Tokyo by bullet train.

Nagano Station prides itself on supporting goat husbandry and promoting quality forage seed distribution.The main activities of the Station are 1)technical guidance on reproduction and feeding of goat, 2)forage seed production and distribution, 3)forage seed inspection and varietal certification, 4)new technology development and research, 5)collection and preservation of genetic resources.

Nagano Station is the only institute responsible for the operation of the OECD Schemes for the Varietal Certification of Forage Seed Moving in International Trade in Japan since 1967. The Station has also joined a member's laboratory of International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) since 1979. In August 2003,the Station was authorized as an accredited laboratory of the ISTA.

The century anniversary of the foundation was celebrated in 2007.
